Kings and Queens: What is a Monarch?
Discover what a monarch is and learn about the concept of the line of succession. Discover how some monarchs have changed the course of history through looking at costume. Handle artefacts to help understand how people remember kings and queens.
This 2hr session will begin with a look at what a monarch is, and how the next monarch is chosen. Pupils will be organised into a line, oldest to youngest, to discover what the line of succession means. Pupils will learn what happens when a monarch is crowned and will be invited to the coronation of King Charles lll!
Three pupils will be selected to wear costume to help the class understand the significance of certain monarchs. Pupils will meet William The Conqueror, Henry Vlll and Charles ll.
The workshop will finish with artefact handling. Pupils will look at memorabilia from important royal events, and everyday object diplaying royal images, such as coins and stamps.
The workshop will focus on
- What a monarch is and how monarchs are chosen .
- What happens during a coronation.
- What significance some monarchs had on the course of history.
- How artefacts can help us to understand the importance of monarchs.
